PUERTO MONTT, CHILE & PUERO VARAS

Puerto Montt is the region's capital and largest city. It has a large German community dating back to 1852. The city seems very European and some of the homes look like Austrian ski chalets.
Don's shore excursion was Mountains, Lakes & Waterfalls and I will post his photos.
I did a Farm Fresh Culinary Experienc. We first went to a market and bought ingredients for the meal that Chef Richard was to prepare at his restaurant, Bravo Cabrera. The next stop was on the shore of the ocean where the fishermen were selling their catch from the morning out. They also got it ready for us to take to cook. The next stop was a German farm-house wher we got all of the vegetables that were to be prepared. (Also picked fresh that morning) We had a fabulous 3 course meal prepared by the chef and a good time was had by all. The restaurant and farm were in Puerto Varas, the "City of Roses".

CHILE-THE FINGER POINTING TO ANTARCTICA

North to south, Chile's coastline measures a staggering 2,700 miles. That's approximately the same distance as a line drawn from L.A. to N.Y. (Manhattan) and her eastern border is never further from the Pacific on the west that 110 miles. In fact, Chile is among the smallest of the continent's many nations when you calculate square miles. That number is a mere 292,258 square miles as compared to Brazil which covers a whopping 3,287,893 square miles.
We docked early on 1-20-11 and the first segment of our cruise was over with many fellow passengers getting off and going to their homes. We docked in Valparaiso, the sister city of Santiago and enjoyed a trip ashore to Vina del Mar(a resort community).
